DOROTHY MAE WILLIAMS BELL “CENTURIAN” 100 + years

A celebration of life for Our Mother Dorothy Mae Williams Bell, better known as Big Mama, Rose, Aunt Sis, Mrs., Bell,  or just Mrs. Dorothy will be held at 12:15 PM on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Growing Valley Baptist Church, with Rev Dr. Kelvin L. Lynch and Rev. Charles E. Faulks officiating.

She will rest until the Redeemer returns at Grace Hill Cemetery in Longview.

Dorothy came into the world on January 17, 1925, to the parents of Perry Williams and Alluter Jones in Clarksville, Red River County, Texas. She was the matriarch of the family and the Northcutt Heights Community.

Dorothy met and married James Velton Bell, Sr. in January, 1946.

Working for the Gaye Cole Wheeler Family greater than 41 years, she raised and cared for her daughters, Sally Wheeler Magee and Nancy Wheeler Heller, whom she dearly love as her own.

Dorothy was the last living Organizing member of Growing Valley Baptist Church. She worked faithfully until health prevented her. Working in the church was an integral part of Dorothy’s life serving as Church Clerk, Financial Secretary, BTU Secretary, choir member, usher and Mission President for many years and becoming Mission President Emeritus.

Community was also a part of Dorothy’s Life. She served as Northside PTA President, Mary C. Womack Band Booster Club Secretary, Little League and Baseball Booster Club Secretary and Cub Scout Den Mother.

On Sunday, October 12, 2025, Dorothy received a call from her Heavenly Father to come home and she responded.

Dorothy will forever be in the hearts and minds of her Daughter; Velma Bell Clay; Sons: Vincenzo A. “Vince” Williams, James V. Bell, Jr., Clifford L. Bell, Sr., Bobby G. Bell, Sr. and Kenneth L. Bell, Sr..
