Service for M.T.Rhodes 84 of Longview,TX will be 12:noon Saturday November 1,2014 Bethel Baptist Church with Rev.Rev. Dorsett Houston,officiating. Mr.Rhodes died on Wednesday October 22,2014 in a local hospital. M.T.Rhodes was the youngest of six children born to Blum Rhodes and Lizzie (Elizabeth)Rhodes of Nacogdoches,Texas on August 24,1930.As a young child around age 7 he and his family moved to Gregg County (Post Oak and Pleasant Green Communities).He graduated from Ned E.Williams High School around 1948.He joined the United State Army in 1951 and went abroad and served in Japan,Korea and received an Honorable Discharge in 1953. M.T. worked for Sears and Roebuck after returning from the U.S.Army,He moved to Dallas around 1960 with his brother Willie James (Bill) Rhodes and worked as a supervisor and forman for Browning,Prowell Roofing,Cornblee Roofing,D & S Residential Services and held other jobs till he retired.While living in Dallas,Texas he gave his life to Christ at Denley Drive Baptist Church where he served in the Brotherhood and Male Chorus.He was very instrumental in encourgging his son Melvin in working with the National Baptist Convention USA,Inc.Laymen.M.T. after moving back to Longview,Texas he united with Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.He served as Brotherhood President,Trustee,President of the male chorus.He was fund of singing with his own swag. M.T.married Johnny Faye and later Jennell Williams of Longview,Texas and to that union was born one daughter Cheryl Rhodes.He is preceded in death by his wife Johnny Faye and Jennell Rhodes,parents,Blum and Lizzie Rhodes,siblings;Columbus (Blur) Rhodes,Willie James (Bill) Rhodes,Beamon Rhodes,Lillie Rhodes Christian,daughter Sharon Snoddy Dantzler,grandsons Donyell Snoddy and Tavares Tell. He leaves to cherish his fond memories ;Son Melvin D.Snoddy Sr. (Gloria),Cheryl Rhodes Johnson (Norman),Sister Dillie Rhodes Sanders.9 Grandchildren,16 Great grand children,4 Step children.A host of nieces,nephews,grand nieces,Grand nephews,Cousins and Friends
